last things first

Sweet mother of goodness, what a weekend.

First of all, it's 1:21 in the freakin' morning, and i just got off the phone with my parents, who are stranded on the side of the road about 50 miles from home with a blowout on the van. That is towing the boat. They are lucky to have not sideswiped anyone on their way to the shoulder, but the moral of the story is never leave home without a) your Triple A card, and b) a pen to write down the number of the towing company that your daughter tracked down for you in the middle of the effing night, so if they don't come within the next half-hour, you don't have to call said daughter and rouse her from sleep again. I don't know why the hell they're not home already; it's a six-hour drive, and they left the venue about 7.5 hours ago, but regardless: Stuck. On the side of the road. Flat tire. Hilarity has ensued.

And because i'm a masochist and a worrywart, i'm still awake twenty minutes after getting off the phone, because if they're gonna call back, i'd rather just still be awake for it than have a panic attack in my sleep because the phone's ringing in the middle of the goddamn night.

More later. My eyes are starting to droop, so perhaps i'll try to fall back asleep after all. Fingers crossed.

....in other news: I RODE IN THE BOAT, y'all!! TWICE!! And we even MADE THE FINAL!! Well, briefly, and we didn't actually race in it, b/c it's still effing overheating if you don't take it out of the water after a heat and give the motor time to cool down pretty much completely, but i'll post about the race when i'm less exhausted. And not worried about my parents being mowed down by a tractor-trailer in the night. Sigh.

***ETA: Just talked to my stepdad, who told me they got home at 4:30 this morning. Sweet Jesus. The guy that i called to come to their rescue via AAA showed up right as they were finishing up the tire-changing. And when i say "they," i mean "my stepdad, who was ably assisted by a young, strapping highway patrolman who considerately held the flashlight so Michael could scramble under the van by his lonesome and retrieve the spare." Thanks, State Police!
